This issue got stirred up a bit last April from a Greenpeace China investigation which found that only 5 of 45 fruit and vegetable samples had no pesticides. The samples were taken from Wal-Mart, Vanguard, Lotus and Nonggongshang stores in Guangzhou, Shanghai and Beijing.
